Let's Blow Some Sh*t Up

In celebration of fireworks, summer camp and a little bit of AI video and algorithm hacking

When I was a kid at sleep-away camp (Go Camp Cody!), every July 4th the counselors would take us to the lake, set off some highly questionable fireworks, and occasionally toss a small lightly explosive item into a crowd of thrilled / lightly terrified eight- to thirteen-year-olds.

Amazingly, no one was ever hurt. A lot of scorched sweatpants, surprisingly few scorched children.

And honestly, it was fun and scary and kind of great in the way that going on an old amusement park ride is - you most likely will not get injured buuuuuut….you could.

And it is one of my favorite firework memories (I remain to this day upset that modern firework technology has not yet been able to create a giant “Happy 4th of July” in the sky.

Heading into the holiday, I wish all of you you a similarly joyous (and only slightly hazardous) Fourth full of grilled food and things that go boom (ideally in the sky and not near your camp sweatpants).

And as I continue to experiment with SubstackVideo Dwell Time - below is my attempt to recreate using Veo3. So far I have produced video that lacks both sound AND emotion so…still working on that.

And to further engagement, now a cringe-y CTA.

Please share your own memories of the time you nearly lost a finger (or limb) due to ill-adivsed usage of fireworks. OR a time you tried to use Veo3 and failed.

Both count.

And Happy Fourth!
